Baby Blankets - Warmth and Security by Binny Satin

It is very important for a baby to have blankets. They provide comfort in 2 ways. One is the obvious one. The other is security. The baby feels secure that it is there. Baby blankets are very important in a baby's life. It does not matter if that blanket is torn or dirty, nothing else is acceptable. The blanket is their whole life, besides Mom and Dad though. The child is happy if they have their blanky with them.

When a baby is born, they look for security. They find it in Mom but mom is not there all the time, their blanky is. Baby blankets provide warmth and the baby sleeps with it. What gives them warmth at night becomes their friend in the day time. They equate warmth with security. They feel safe with Mom and she provides all the love. Dad does too but they do not see him in the same light. They think of Dad as a friendly stranger who comes and goes. Mom on the other hand has given birth to them and they have an inbuilt connection with her that they do not have with anyone else. The blanket however is different. They feel an affinity towards it, to the point where they have to hold it, even if they are being held by Mom.

To a baby, a baby blanket is a friend who does not leave them, and as such it is important. They carry it wherever they go and slowly, even if it is dirty they do not want to leave it. They will give up anything in their life but will hold on to the Blanky, which in their mind never leaves them. That is why it is known as a security blanket. Life is very simple when you are a baby, eating going to the bathroom, laughing or crying are the only activities that they indulge in, besides their blanky.

They feel one with the blanket, like it is an extension of them. It is hard to replace. You can get a new Baby Blanket but it will not be the same and as such is not a substitute. You can put it n their bed and cover them with it, but they will still like the old one. Obviously all babies cannot be generalized about. Some will use a pacifier as a security blanket. But the reason the saying of having a security blanket came because babies like blankets. The legend of the security blanket has been on ever since there were blankets. So if you have babies buy them a strong first blanket as it has to last a long time.
